    Legend of Bachué's departure

Legend about the Origin of the Muiscas Legend of Bachué At one time there was nothing on earth. The first to inhabit it was a young and strong woman who left the Iguaque lagoon through the frozen fog and the sonorous wind of the moor. Her name was Bachué and she was holding a three-year-old boy by the hand. They both went down to the valley and built a house where they lived until the child grew up and she was able to marry Bachué. They had many children (sometimes Bachué had four or six births at the same time), so the Muisca territory began to be populated.

Bachué taught them to cultivate the land, take care of it and worship the gods. After many years, Bachué and her husband, now old, returned to the Iguaque lagoon where they said goodbye to the crowd that, crying, watched them leave. Suddenly the old men transformed into two immense snakes and disappeared under the calm waters of the lagoon. Bachué became the goddess of fertility, the one who made the earth bear fruit and families have many children.
